The Conventional Range of Fire Alarm Systems of Olympia Electronics has been approved from Lloyd’s Register and is appropriate for all cargo ships that should have fire detection systems with section identification capability.
The products that belong in the conventional range of Fire Alarm Systems are the conventional fire alarm panels of 8, 12 and 16 zones BS-1638/MAR, BS-1642/MAR and BS-1646/MAR accordingly. These conventional fire alarm panels have maximum capacity of 20 devices per zone (detectors, manual call points etc) and 2 siren outputs in order to connect the audiovisual devices. The programmable relays contacts of the panel provide capabilities to monitor relay operated devices that are used in vessels and should be activated in case of alarm situations. These panels also have 24VDC outputs that can power supply extra devices such as gas detectors installed on the zones and need 24VDC power supply. Electrical engineers will be able to build a network of these conventional panels if there is an increased number of zones in the vessel (more than 16 zones) and the connection is easily achieved via common Ethernet Cables. These conventional fire alarm panels enable a very easy installation, programming and monitoring of the installation and have 72h autonomy.
Additional to the conventional fire alarm panels are the peripheral devices that complement the conventional range of products. Olympia Electronics manufactures conventional smoke, heat and combined function smoke/heat detectors, BS-655/MAR, BS-660/MAR and BS-657/MAR, also manual call points BS-536/MAR and sirens with beacons that have the capability to provide 8 different tones and frequencies BS-531/1/MAR & BS-531/1/WP/MAR, in order to switch to the one that is appropriate for your installation. These conventional products are tested for the harsh environment of sea and appropriate for the installation in many areas of the vessel, accommodation, service spaces, control stations, engine rooms, galleys, escape corridors and stairwells.
Recently, Exxonmobil, the largest publicly traded international oil and gas company, introduced marine environmental, safety and quality assurance criteria for International ocean/seagoing tanker vessels in Exxon mobile affiliate service. These new criteria obligate tanker vessels to upgrade the fire alarm system and expand the protection in many areas of the vessel. Vessels must have an automatic system of fire detection in the accommodation, wheelhouse, Cargo Control Room (CCR), laundry, drying room, fire control station, pantry and galley areas and additionally is preferred to cover all cabins and public rooms. Due to the lack of detectors mainly in wheelhouse, laundry, drying rooms, pantries and cabins, Olympia Electronics propose instead of a new design of fire alarm system in the vessel, a parallel conventional fire alarm system that will cover the referred areas with fire detection and will be connected with the fire alarm system that has already been installed and working in the vessel. The conventional fire alarm panels are compatible with all conventional and addressable fire alarm panels of all fire alarm manufacturers, have very low cost and enable a quick and easy expansion of fire alarm system. The new conventional panel is connected with the main fire alarm system of the ship and the monitoring is achieved from the main panel.
Olympia Electronics has already proceeded to this solution in many tankers that were willing to meet the requirements of ExxonMobil, had an already installed operational fire alarm panel of another manufacturer, needed just the expansion and not a complete renovation of fire alarm system. The installation and operation of the proposed conventional systems in parallel with the already installed fire detection systems was crowned with absolute success in all projects.
Continuing the analysis of fire detection in vessels, the Addressable Range of Fire Alarm Systems of Olympia Electronics has been also approved from Lloyd’s Register and is appropriate for all passenger ships or cargo ships that should have fire detection systems with remotely and individually identifying capability of each detector and manual call point of the system.
The addressable monitoring fire alarm panels of Olympia Electronics BSR-2104/MAR and BSR-2114/MAR with 2 loops and 4 loops accordingly, 96 zones programming capability, have 150 devices maximum capacity per loop and also 2 and 4 siren outputs for conventional sirens, that enables to connect besides the addressable sirens on the loops, the conventional sirens in output circuits in order to increase the capabilities of the system. These panels can be networked if we have a very big installation such as a cruise ship, can be easily programmed through a common PC or laptop or directly from the display of the panel. These panels also provide to the ship designers capabilities that increase the complexity of the systems. Programmable input and output contacts relay contacts and also 24VDC outputs in order to power supply devices such as gas detectors connected on the fire alarm panel, electromagnetic door latches etc. The panels have the capability to be connected with PA systems and also with General Alarm in vessels through relay contacts.
The addressable range of peripheral devices includes addressable optical smoke detectors BSR-6055/A/MAR, addressable heat detectors that combine two functions, the rate of rise and static heat detection BSR-6060/A/MAR and the addressable combined smoke and heat detectors that combine the function of optical smoke and static response heat detector BSR-6057/A/MAR. The range is fulfilled with addressable manual call point BSR-5036/A/MAR and the addressable input/ output module BSR-8020/WP/MAR. The use of the addressable input/ output module BSR-8020/WP/MAR is to connect conventional devices that have a free relay contact such as electromagnetic door holders and as a driving input unit for conventional panels, detectors, gas detectors and antiexplosive devices with or without external power supply. These addressable products are tested for the harsh environment of sea and appropriate for the installation in many areas of the vessel, accommodation, service spaces, control stations, engine rooms, galleys, escape corridors and stairwells.
The marine fire alarm products of Olympia Electronics have been certified from the European Laboratory Lloyd’s Register and they also hold the “wheelmark” (Module B & Module D certificate) for vessels that have European Flag. Both addressable and conventional fire alarm products have been installed in retrofits and in new buildings in many different types of vessels, such as cargo ships, containers, ferry boats, fishing vessels, ro-ro ships, cruise ships and yachts.
